In this video, April makes a recipe for pan roasted chicken thighs with a Rosemary Maple pan sauce. It’s an elegant dish that is actually very quick to prepare. The maple and rosemary flavors pair perfectly with the bacon in this delicious chicken dish.

    Chicken Thighs Rosemary-Maple Pan Sauce

    Serves 4

    Ingredients

    2 slices bacon
1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs
    1 teaspoon salt, divided
    3/4 teaspooon black pepper, divided
    1 shallot, minced
    1 1/2 teaspoons fresh rosemary
1/2 cup chicken broth or stock
    2 tablespoons Maple syrup
    1 tablespoon butter

    Directions

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees

In an ovenproof skillet, cook bacon until crisp, reserving the drippings in the pan. Sprinkle the chicken thighs on each side with 3/4-teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper, sear in the skillet with the drippings over medium high heat for 3 minutes on each side.

Place the skillet with the chicken into the oven for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and place chicken on a plate and cover.

Meanwhile, heat the skillet again over medium heat and add the shallot and rosemary to the pan drippings, cook for about 1 minute. Next add the chicken broth to the skillet and use a wooden spoon to scrape up the brown bits on the bottom of the pan. Add the maple syrup and remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper.

Reduce the “sauce” for 2-3 minutes, and then add the butter, and stir until melted. Pour the sauce over the chicken thighs and sprinkle the cooked bacon on top before serving.

Slow Cooker Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup Recipe (牛肉麵)

This is my Uncle’s delicious Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup recipe. Great for warming you up on a cold day. I’ve modified it so we could use the slow cooker and get perfectly tender meat without cooking for hours on the stove. The full list of detailed ingredients are posted at the end of this video (around 12:23) plus some outtakes 🙂 Enjoy~

If you don’t have a slow cooker, you can still cook this soup by slowly simmering for about 2 hours on a very low heat (or until the meat is tender).

If you’re curious, I’m using this 4-quart digital slow cooker. It’s not too big to take up kitchen space, but still big enough for a recipe like this: http://amzn.to/1yk8RMu

Asian cuisine styles can be broken down into several tiny regional styles that have rooted the peoples and cultures of those regions. The major types can be roughly defined as East Asian with its origins in Imperial China and now encompassing modern Japan and the Korean peninsula; Southeast Asian which encompasses Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Viet Nam, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines; South Asian states that are made up of India, Burma, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan as well as several other countries in this region of the continent; Central Asian and Middle Eastern.
“Asian cuisine” most often refers to East Asian (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean), Southeast Asian cuisine and South Asian cuisine. In much of Asia, the term does not include the country’s native cuisines. For example, in Hong Kong and mainland China, Asian cuisine is a general umbrella term for Japanese cuisine, Korean cuisine, Filipino cuisine, Thai cuisine, Vietnamese cuisine, Malaysian and Singaporean cuisine and Indonesian cuisine; but Chinese cuisine and Indian cuisine are excluded. The term Asian cuisine might also be used to address the eating establishments that offer wide array of Asian dishes without rigid cuisine boundaries; such as selling satay, gyoza or lumpia for appetizer, som tam, rojak or gado-gado for salad, offering chicken teriyaki, nasi goreng or beef rendang as main course, tom yam and laksa as soup, and cendol or ogura ice for dessert. In modern fusion cuisine, the term Asian cuisine might refer to the culinary exploration of cross-cultural Asian cuisine traditions. For example combining the culinary elements of Vietnam and Japanese, Thai and Malay, or Indonesian and Chinese.
Japanese cuisine is the food—ingredients, preparation and way of eating—of Japan. The traditional food of Japan is based on rice with miso soup and other dishes, each in its own utensil, with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients. The side dishes often consist of fish, pickled vegetables, and vegetables cooked in broth. Fish is common in the traditional cuisine. It is often grilled. Fish may be served raw as sashimi or in sushi. Seafood and vegetables are also deep-fried in a light batter as tempura.
Apart from rice, staples include noodles, such as soba and udon. Japan has many simmered dishes such as fish products in broth called oden, or beef in sukiyaki and nikujaga. Foreign food, in particular Chinese food in the form of noodles in soup called ramen and fried dumplings, gyoza, and western food such as curry and hamburger steaks are commonly found in Japan. Historically, the Japanese shunned meat, but with the modernization of Japan in the 1860s, meat-based dishes such as tonkatsu became common.
Chinese cuisine includes styles originating from the diverse regions of China, plus styles of Chinese people in other parts of the world. The history of Chinese cuisine in China stretches back for thousands of years and has changed from period to period and in each region according to climate, imperial fashions, and local preferences. Over time, techniques and ingredients from the cuisines of other cultures were integrated into the cuisine of the Chinese peoples due both to imperial expansion and from the trade with nearby regions in pre-modern times as well as from Europe and the New World in the modern period.
Styles and tastes also varied by class, region, and ethnic background. This led to an unparallelled range of ingredients, techniques, dishes and eating styles in what could be called Chinese food, leading Chinese to pride themselves on eating a wide variety of foods while remaining true to the spirit and traditions of Chinese food culture.
Thai cuisine is the national cuisine of Thailand. Blending elements of several Southeast Asian traditions, Thai cooking places emphasis on lightly prepared dishes with strong aromatic components. The spiciness of Thai cuisine is well known. As with other Asian cuisines, balance, detail and variety are of great significance to Thai chefs. Thai food is known for its balance of three to four fundamental taste senses in each dish or the overall meal: sour, sweet, salty, and bitter.

  • 7 Best Protein Sources For Vegetarians

7 Best Protein Sources For Vegetarians

    Build Muscle Fast.

    What’s up,

It’s Mike Chang and today we are going to be discussing protein sources for vegetarians. Not everyone eats meat and that is understandable, but you can’t let it hold you back. This will help vegetarians build muscle fast and non-vegetarians have more sources of protein so that they can get the ripped body they’ve always wanted.

    Video breakdown:

0:28 #1 Quinoa is great and one cup cooked has about 18 grams of protein.

0:35 #2 Beans, lentils or chick peas (yes the one they make hummus out of). So one cup of beans has about 13 grams of protein and no it is not as much as meat, but it can still get the job done.

**1:34 You really don’t need that much protein to build muscle. Just stick to one gram of protein per pound of muscle, because it is not necessary to eat a ton. And of course, you want to stay lean.

1:56 #3 Soy products and tofu. You can drink a cup of soy milk and get 7 grams of protein or eat a cup of tofu and get 20 grams of protein. And tofu is very easy to digest. Try mixing it in with your vegetable dishes for a great, healthy meal.

2:46 #4 Nuts are a great protein source and source of healthy fat. Make sure you remember that they are high in fat and high and calories, so don’t make them your primary protein source.

3:55 #5 Seitan or veggie burgers. So seitain has about 29 grams of protein per serving(100 gram serving) and the veggie burgers have about 10 grams. What I like to do with veggie burgers is stack them up and eat 2 or 3 so I can get extra protein.

4:31 #6 Tempeh is ground of soy beans and a little less than a cup has 18 grams of protein.

4:55 #7 Protein powders and protein bars are the other sources of protein that you can use. They are a great way to get protein, but use them as a supplement and not as a primary source of protein.

And if you want the know how to reprogram your body and build muscle fast, check this out:

I used to get so frustrated with my flabby body. I had tried everything but it seems like nothing worked. I didn’t know what to do but to blame my genetics. But once I learned this one “trick” to build muscle fast, I started shedding fat and getting huge.
Could this one “trick” give you the ripped muscles you’ve always wanted?

    Train Hard,

Curry /ˈkʌri/, plural curries, is the generic English term primarily employed in Western culture to denote a wide variety of dishes whose origins are Southern and Southeastern Asian cuisines, as well as New World cuisines influenced by them such as Trinidadian, Mauritian or Fijian. Their common feature is the incorporation of complex combinations of spices and/or herbs, usually including fresh or dried hot chillies. In original traditional cuisines, the precise selection of spices for each dish is a matter of national or regional cultural tradition, religious practice, and, to some extent, family preference. Such dishes are called by specific names that refer to their ingredients, spicing, and cooking methods. http://www.howtocookgreatcurry.comTraditionally, spices are used both whole and ground; cooked or raw; and they may be added at different times during the cooking process to produce different results. Curry powder, prepared mixture of spices, is largely a Western notion, dating to the 18th century. Such mixtures are commonly thought to have first been prepared by Indian merchants for sale to members of the British Colonial government and army returning to Britain. Dishes called “curry” may containhttp://www.howtocookgreatcurry.com meat, poultry, fish, or shellfish, either alone or in combination with vegetables. They may instead be entirely vegetarian, especially among those for whom there are religious proscriptions against eating meat or seafood.Curries may be either “wet” or “dry.” Wet curries contain significant amounts of sauce or gravy based on yoghurt, coconut milk, legume purée (dal), or stock. Dry curries are cooked with very little liquid which is allowed to evaporate, leaving the other ingredients coated with the spice mixture. The main spices found in most South Asian curry powders are turmeric, coriander, and cumin; a wide range of additional spices may be included depending on the geographic region and the foods being included (white/red meat, fish, lentils, rice and vegetables). Curry was adopted and anglicised from the Tamil word kari (கறி) meaning ‘sauce’, which is usually understood to mean vegetables and/or meat cooked with spices with or without a gravy. According to this theory, http://www.howtocookgreatcurry.comkari was first encountered in the mid-17th century by members of the British East India Company trading with Tamil (Indian) merchants along the Coromandel Coast of southeast India, particularly at Fort St. George (later called Madras and renamed Chennai in 1996). Here, they became familiar with “a spice blend used for making kari dishes … called kari podi or curry powder.”. A further explanation put forward in The Flavours of History claims the origins of the word curry to be from old English first recorded in ‘The Forme of Cury’ (1390). Historically, the word “curry” was first used in British cuisine to denote dishes of meat (often leftover lamb) in a Western-style sauce flavoured with curry powder. The first curry recipe in Britain appeared in The Art of Cookery made Plain and Easy by Hannah Glasse in 1747. The first edition of her book used only black pepper and coriander seeds for seasoning of “currey”. By the fourth edition of the book, other ingredients such as turmeric and http://www.howtocookgreatcurry.comginger were called for. The use of hot spices was not mentioned, which reflected the limited use of chili in India — chili plants had only been introduced into India around the late 15th century and at that time were only popular in southern India.
