My grandmas recipe is better.  It's been pass on through the generations.  You put a layer of bacon on the bottom of the pan, the meatlouf in the mottle, surround it in cut potatoes and cover all that in bacon.  A bacon wrapped meatloaf.  The juices from everything coming together is delicious.  And we use a whole pound of bacon… no shame.

I've made this twice now. First time I had no brown sugar to make the sauce but it was still good. Today I did some changes, I substituted seasoning salt for table salt, one garlic clove grated. I like the sauce but toned down the sweetness by adding 1 tsp sriracha sauce.

Any idea how many calories per slice?  Recipes usually note this but I can't seem to find it.  BTW, I made it and its delicious!

Hi neilgunz, thanks for your question! You can certainly substitute the milk in this recipe for soy milk or even beef or chicken stock. For great depth of flavor, try using a tomato-vegetable juice! If you need a substitute for the egg in this recipe, try breadcrumbs or potato flakes. Enjoy 🙂
