Vegan Buttermilk Biscuits Recipe – Southern Country Vegan Soul Food – Bread/Breakfast

Buttermilk biscuits were always a love of my little southern heart. Unfortunately, my grandmother was not much of cooker and they usually came from the can. While Pillsbury did a lovely job, fortunately I am vegan now and can no longer indulge in most canned breads. Here is a recipe for vegan Buttermilk Biscuit, a great hearty start to any day.

Yields: 20 vegan buttermilk biscuits

What ingredients do you need to make buttermilk biscuits:
1 cup almond milk
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons raw sugar
2 tablespoons vegan butter (cubed)
2 tablespoons vegetable shortening

How to make vegan buttermilk biscuits:

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

Stir vinegar into almond milk and set aside to curdle for about 5 minutes to form “vegan buttermilk”.

Sift together all purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add raw sugar to the bowl.

Cut vegan butter into the flour mixture using a fork or pastry blender until the dough is crumbly.

Stir vegan buttermilk into the crumbly biscuit dough. Mix just until the dough comes together to form a ball.

Press buttermilk biscuit dough out to be about 1 inch thick onto parchment paper that has been lightly floured, and flour the top of the biscuit dough as while.

Cut buttermilk biscuits out of the dough using a biscuit cutter or 2 inch wide cookie cutter. It may help to dip the cutter into flour too.

Place the vegan biscuits onto an ungreased cookie sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space between.

Bake for 10 – 12 minutes and allow to buttermilk biscuits to cool slightly before serving.

Enjoy your southern vegan breakfast with vegan buttermilk biscuits.

These were so good! I was scared because I made biscuits once before; I followed the recipe exactly, but they turned out nasty. But these turned out great. They tasted good even without butter (vegan of course).

I think you forgot to put in the description to add in the vegetable shortening.
I tried to recipe but forgot about the shortening haha, they still turned out OK though but they looked different. Also I think because of the altitude here, something turned out different, I don't know, haha.

I am totally new to Vegan eating. Actually, I haven't had a complete day yet of Vegan eating, but I am working toward it as I am learning about what items I need to have on hand. Do you have a video that discusses that? Like the basic staples for Vegan baking or cooking?
