Shakshouka (Egg Dish) - Saudi Arabia Recipe

Based on many requests, Eman, my Saudi friend, is showing us how to make another dish popular in Saudi Arabia: Shakshouka. It’s poached eggs cooked over a delicious tomato and onion sauce. It is an impressive breakfast dish that is super easy to make!

Garlic before the onion? Butter and not olive oil? No peppers? Nope. Not
    shakshuka.

It is a meal not only in Saudi Arabia; also most of the Middle East; and
    especially the Mediterranean basin.

Thanks for all the recipes Alia. I cooked the Saleeg and omg is it so
    amazing (off topic sorry)

In my city we do shakshuka differently, we mix the eggs with the tomatoes
    as if making scrambled eggs..

It turns out that the tomato (a currant berry bred to be huge) is a
powerful anti-cancer food. Something you should have every day. So kudos on
featuring the tomato. The onion is one of “flayva kings”. No doubt. I
haven’t tried the dish but don’t visually relate to eggs. But I would so
try this. Thanks for sharing. I’m willing to have my mind blown by
traditions with which I don’t usually interact.

I am from India and my Mom makes this for lunch. My mom also add
chopped(medium) capsicum along with onion and tomatoes .She also adds more
spices like garlic(1/2 ),cinnamon(2-3 small sticks) and bay leaves(2-3
leaves) .This is my favorite dish. Thanks for posting the recipe !

Diversity is learning about other’s cultures, not mocking them as the
atheist jews like to do. Learn their food, their belief, and respect them
rather than mock. After all, Jesus was perfect and they mock Him.

This is NOT a 5 minute recipe. If you include the prep time for chopping
and all the cooking time, it’s more like a 30 minute recipe.

  17. Michelle Chalan

I just made this. It literally did take 5 minutes, and it came out amazing!
I have made the same recipe previously with bad results, so thanks!

  18. Fany M

I just made it for my husband and he loved it. I just added mozzarella on
    top. Yummy!
