Is this for, “pre-washed” quinoa ?
I’m assuming that once you finish toasting the quinoa and you pour in the
water… you REDUCE the heat to LOW, cover and let it simmer for 20mins
just like rice??
My recipe: quinoa, olive oil, sea salt, tomatoes, garbanzos, spinach.
I thought you are supposed to rinse it a few times to get rid of the bitter
taste. I have never cooked it myself but without exception every video I
have watched on this til now has reiterated that.
I made a list summarizing the steps for myself so I wouldn’t forget
something and have to come back to the video later, but I thought I’d post
it here to answer questions I’m seeing a lot of in the comments:
-Rinse quinoa in a fine mesh colander if your quinoa is not pre-rinsed. If
it is pre-rinsed, skip this step.
-Turn burner on to med-high heat
-Add oil of choice into a pot
-When oil becomes hot, add quinoa. It’s okay if it is still wet from
rinsing; it will just take a little longer.
-Toast quinoa in the oil until it becomes brown, but not black, and there
are slight popping sounds.
-When quinoa is toasted, add water or stock of choice. (The ratio is 2:1
water:quinoa, just like rice.)
-When water boils (which should be immediately due to the heat in the pot)
cover, reduce heat to low, and set a timer for 20 minutes.
-When the 20 minutes are up, turn off heat, fluff with a fork and serve.
Awesome channel name :)
If you toast it dry, when if ever do you wash it to remove the bitter
taste? When I wash my quinoa, it’s always too mushy even if I cut the
water a bit so I’m going to try toasting it using your recipe even if there
is a slight aftertaste, I wouldn’t mind. Thanks for this video!
Thanks. Considering going vegan, and I hear this is the holy grail.
Did I miss it, but she never mentioned the temp for the stove. Do we start
on high or med/high, do we reduce it to low or med/low to simmer? Those are
key steps one needs to know!!!
I just use my rice maker add coconut oil and wow very good and you don’t
have to watch it.
Why not soak it to disintegrate the phytic acid? Don’t foods such as
grains, seeds, and nuts require soaking in order to disintegrate the phytic
acid?
her mannerisms are super cute… subed
Can you cook quinoa in a rice cooker?

Sweet mines was to tender last time……..
Thank you so much! Life saver.
Can i have quinoa as sub for rice?
Does the toasting step get rid of the bitter flavor? I’ll try this method,
but sometimes I think that even pre-washed quinoa still needs to be washed
for my taste, but maybe it depends on the brand.?.?.? Or maybe my taste
buds are too sensitive… 🙂 Anyway, thanks for sharing. You make it look
easy! :
