I get that some of you international folks aren’t familiar with American
culture and customs like what we commonly eat at Thanksgiving but I also
think some of you need to be a little more respectful with how your
approach that. Curiosity over something you’ve never seen is one thing but
there is a lot of condescending comments knocking our customs. I don’t find
that cool. Yes us American’s eat sweet potatoes with marshmallows for
Thanksgiving as a side dish right along side the turkey. Savory and sweet.
No its not a desert. It shouldn’t be looked on as weird the same way
customs from your countries shouldn’t be looked down upon. Just sayin…
I’m from Canada and while I don’t think I have ever had sweet potato pie,
we do have Thanksgiving up here ( but it’s in October). I believe I had
just mashed sweet potato with marshmallow though. I can understand how odd
this sounds to some folks though.
Yummm, making this for thanksgiving!! PS I want to say for the record that
EVERY recipe i’ve made of yours has been outstanding & I’ve made at least
10 or so now 🙂
Every time yo said Swert Potato Casserole, I heard Soup Potato Casserole
lol
I would eat that as dessert. I will make it as a dessert for sure. As a
side dish? Eeeeek!!
I’m so confused at this dish… She said it was to be served with turkey
yet added sugar, pecans and marshmallows!? Wouldn’t that be more of a
(strange) desert? Not sure whether this is an American thing because we
don’t have Thanksgiving in the UK haha
I’m feeling really conflicted here… It’s so sweet! Looks like a dessert.
But then, I’m an Aussie and we eat Vegemite which looks like wheel grease
I’ve never seen sweet potatoes so orange! The ones I get are yellow with
some purple inside……
laura you should have used some nutmeg and cinnamon, yum
American cooking is so weird. I don’t mean this in a bad way, but it’s
really surprising to me to see sweet potatoes associated with marshmallows
^^ Like is this a dessert or an actual dish? Or do you you eat in in
between meal and dessert?
Hahaha the fake grape was hilarious….your so funny Laura “I’m so sorry I
meant to throw it over your head” lol made me laugh out loud.
OMG EW WHO EATS MARSHMALLOWS WITH SWEET POTATOES. I just vomited a
little………
Sweetpotatoes and marshmallows makes me one confused European! haha But I’m
going to assume that it’s tasty.
Wait a second, you guys eat this as a side to your dinner? I cannot get my
head around having something so sweet with marshmallow served with turkey.
America loves sweet in everything! Even the average slice of white bread is
so sweet in comparison to ours! I love sugar, maybe I should move there.
Then again I’m trying to lose weight
Im totally confused. Do Americans eat sweet potato as a dessert?? I eat
mine here in England with a roast lol. I cant imagine eating them with
marshmallows eeewwww. Love all your other recipes of course :)
As a Brit, I really don’t get sweet potato casserole, can an american
explain please? Seems like a dessert but seemingly everyone eats it with
the turkey…
Can we all just take a minute to praise Laura’s eye makeup
Do you really eat that with turkey? isent that wierd? O.o
Made one of these for every dinner we had to go to this year and was told
that was what I had to bring to every dinner from now on. The roasted
potatoes definitely makes a difference. Thank you!
Gingerbread cheesecake bites please :)
Lol, apparently I’m not as American as I thought, considering I’ve lived
here my entire life, and never once looked at sweet potato casserole as a
side-dish and have always seen it as a dessert…. If it’s sweet, it’s a
dessert. I would never combine it with turkey (both in the same bite of
food).
