  • Swamp Water Punch – Beverages and Drinks Recipes

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    orange juice

    optional: ginger ale, alcohol of some kind

    blue food coloring

    optional: floating arm-of-death (recipe follows)

    Put some blue food coloring into the orange juice punch until it

    turns a disgusting swamp-green color. The color is gross and the

    orange juice pulp floating around really adds to the effect.

    People will realize that the punch tastes good, but it will take

    them awhile to figure out it is orange juice.

    Floating Arm-of-Death

    Water or orange juice

    optional: gummy worms

    Freeze the water (and gummy worms if desired) in a clean rubber glove.

    Peel off the rubber glove and float the arm in the punch.

  • Strawberry-Lemonade Punch – Beverages and Drinks Recipes

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    1 (6 oz.) can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed and undiluted

    1 (6 oz.) can frozen limeade concentrate, thawed and undiluted

    1 (6 oz.) can frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed and undiluted

    2 (10 oz.) pkgs. frozen sliced strawberries, thawed

    3 cups cold water

    1 (2 liter) bottle ginger ale, chilled

    Combine the first 5 ingredients; add the ginger ale, and

    stir gently.

    Makes 1 gallon, serves about 12.

    NOTE: I like to float a frozen ring of prepared lemonade

    with whole strawberries in the punch bowl.

  • Strawberry Lemonade – Beverages and Drinks Recipes

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    freshly squeezed juice of 9 lemons (1 1/2 cups)

    5-6 cups of water

    10-oz pkg. frozen strawberries, pureed (fresh would do perfectly well,

    but I didn’t happen to have any available when I made this last night)

    sugar to taste

    Combine lemon juice, water, and 3/4 of the strawberry puree. Add sugar

    until you have reached the desired tartness/sweetness. Add strawberry

    puree until the strawberry/lemon taste balance is about equal.

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    An easy drink to make is called spring water. You mix any where

    from 1/2 shot to as much Vodka as you want with the soda drink,

    Sun Drop. You can also use Mountain Dew, but Sun Drop is the best.

    It mixes with the vodka so well, that you can barely taste any

    alcohol, and it looks like a soda — just pour it over the rocks!

  • HOT SPICED WHISKEY – Beverages and Drinks Recipes

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    One serving.

    1/4 teaspoon powdered cloves

    1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg

    1 stick cinnamon

    1 teaspoon sugar

    2 1/2 ounces bourbon

    Gently heat bourbon and pour over the spices in a china mug.

    Steep 10 minutes. Fill mug with boiling hot water. Serve.

    BETTER HOT BUTTERED RUM

    One serving.

    strip orange peel

    2 teaspoons brown sugar

    1/2 jigger warm golden rum

    1 jigger warm golden rum

    1 teaspoon butter

    cinnamon stick piece

    1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

    1/4 teaspoon allspice

    boiling cider

    Place first 3 ingredients in a silver or pewter mug. Ignite rum and

    let it burn out. Add another jigger rum, butter and spices. Fill

    mug with boiling cider and stir to serve.

    1 1/3 cup Tang

    1/2 cup sugar

    1/3 cup instant tea

    1 tsp cinnamon

    1/3 tsp ground cloves

    Use 1 well-rounded teaspoon per serving.

    For a quart, use 1/3 cup mix.

  • Apple Spiced Iced Tea – Beverages and Drinks Recipes

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    2 Md Sweettart apples

    3/4 Tb Cinnamon

    1 1/2 Tb Sugar

    6 Teabags of orange peako tea

    Water

    Ice

    Slice the apples into thin slices and remove the cores and seeds.

    Place 1/2 of the slices in crockpot.

    Mix the cinnamon and the sugar until it is uniform in color, then

    sprinkle it over the apple slices in the crockpot.

    Add the teabags on top of the apples. Add water to cover. Turn

    crockpot on high for 3 hours.

    Fill large pitcher 1/2 full with ice. Top with remaining apple

    slices. Strain mixture from crockpot and pour over ice. Shake to

    mix. Refrigerate until completely chilled.

    Add the remaining apple slices on top of the ice. Assemble the

    machine and the pitcher and turn it on.

    Add the apple slices from the steeping pot to the pitcher when the

    tea is done along with more ice to fill the pitcher. Stir vigorously

    and serve.

  • Ohio Shaker’s Spiced Grape Juice – Beverages and Drinks Recipes

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    This recipe comes from a nearly defunct religious sect here in the United

    States known as the Shakers. This celibate religious group ate communally,

    but with men one side of the room and women on the other. Shakers are famed

    for their quality furniture, their stewardship, and their excellent cooking.

    This drink was common at their tables.

    2 quarts grape juice (unsweetened)

    1/2 cup sugar

    12 whole cloves

    4 sticks cinnamon

    2 tablespoons whole allspice

    Combine all of the ingredients and heat over a very, very low flame. DO NOT

    BOIL. Let the juice sit on the flame, stirring occassionally, until it is

    hot. The longer the drink is on the flame the more the spices have a chance

    to combine with the juice (I let mine sit for about 3 hours). Strain the

    spices out of the juice. You may serve it hot, or serve it cold. A slice

    of lemon goes great with it. Served cold it is a great summer drink!

  • Iced Spiced Coffee – Beverages and Drinks Recipes

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    Brew some coffee, but add, for each cup:

    1/4 tsp cracked whole allspice

    1 inch of cinnamon stick

    1/4 tsp nutmeg, whole or ground.

    Chill it in the fridge as quickly as possible after brewing, and, when

    cold, add sugar and milk to taste and, if you like, 1 tbsp rum for each

    cupful.

    1 qt apple cider (I like to use the fresh stuff in the plastic jug)

    1 pt cranberry juice

    1 cup orange juice

    3/4 cup lemon juice

    Pour into percolator.

    In the grounds basket, add:

    1 cup sugar

    3 cinnamon sticks

    1 TBS whole allspice

    1 TBS whole cloves

    Perc, and enjoy. I like to slice an orange and place it in the

    grounds basket as well.

    1 oz Lemon Juice

    Fill a shaker half full with ice cubes. Pour all ingredients into shaker and

  • SORREL – Jamaica – Beverages and Drinks Recipes

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    1/4 pound sorrel sepals

    strip of dried orange peel

    cinnamon stick

    few whole cloves

    1 gill rum ( 1/2 cup American or 1/4 pint Imperial or 8 tablespoons liquid

    measure)

    1 gallon boiling water

    2-3 pounds sugar

    1 teaspoon powdered cinnamon

    1/2 teaspoon powdered cloves

    Put the dried sorrel, orange peel, cinnamon stick and whole cloves in

    a gallon jar, pouring the water over. When cool, cover and leave the

    mixture to steep for 2 days. Then strain off the liquid, add sugar to taste

    rather

    sweet, add rum, powdered or ground spices and let it stand for another 2

    days before serving chilled or with crushed ice. This is a popular drink at

    Christmas time when sorrel is in season in Jamaica. The dried sorrel will

    last for months if stored in a dry place.

  • 24-Hour Root Beer – Beverages and Drinks Recipes

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    24-Hour Root Beer

    Yield: 1 gallon

    1 tsp. dry yeast

    1 cup lukewarm water

    2 cups sugar

    5 tsp. root beer extract

    lukewarm

    6-10 dried raisins

    Dissolve yeast in 1 cup lukewarm water. Let stand five

    minutes.

    Combine sugar and extract. Add yeast mixture to it.

    Pour into gallon jug, then fill with lukewarm water,

    stopping 1 inch from the top. Add dried raisins for

    flavor.

    Cover jar and set in the sun for 3 hours. Refrigerate

    overnight. Drink the next day!

    IS IT COKE?

    An 84-year-old retired beverage distributor claimed recently that

    he had the original Coca-Cola formula for almost 40 years.

    Lee Williams wrote in to Dallas Morning News columnist Marylin

    Schwartz, after she had written about the new Coke in her column.

    Williams said he had been given the formula in 1948, when he had a

    sales route for the Dr. Pepper Company.

    A pharmacist named John Reed told him that he used to make his

    own syrup for the cola because he had been given the original

    recipe. Reed said he had gotten it from an ingredient

    salesman who wanted to sell him the ingredients for the syrup.

    He then pulled the formula from a file marked "1898" and let

    Williams make a copy of it.

    If it’s true, this is your big chance to make up a batch of "The

    Real Thing" yourself. Here’s the recipe:

    30 pounds of sugar

    2 gallons of water

    2 pints of lime juice

    4 ounces of citrate of caffeine

    2 ounces of citric acid

    1 ounce of extract of vanilla

    6 drams (3/4 ounce) of fluid extract of cola

    Don’t forget to mix it with carbonated water before you drink it,

    like the fountain drink. If you try it, let us know how it comes

    out. Warning: Drink at your own risk.

    (If they haven’t proved that any of these ingredients causes

    cancer yet, I’m sure it’s just a matter of time.)

    According to the Coca-Cola Company, the formula has never been

    given out. But who knows? this could be the biggest leak

    ever…

  • Snowy Icy Drink – Beverages and Drinks Recipes

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    Serves 7

    8 cups Snow

    3 cups Milk

    2 Tbsp. Flavoring Any Kind

    3 to 4 cups sugar to taste

    Put snow in large bottle. Add milk and the flavoring of your choice.

    Add sugar. Seal bottle with lid or cap and shake until milky.

    Serve. This drink can be stored in the refrigerator.

    1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries, hulled

    1/2 medium banana

    1 and 1/2 tsp. vanilla flavoring

    Put all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth. Poor into

    tall chilled glass and garnish with whole fresh strawberries with

    hulls. The berries in this recipe can be substituted for raspberries,

    blueberries and a lot of other great currants. Serves 2

  • PEACH HONEY FREEZE – Beverages and Drinks Recipes

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    fresh peaches, cut into wedges

    honey

    lemon juice

    ice cubes

    Fill a blender 1/3 full with peaches, douse them with a half-cup

    of honey or corn syrup, splash in about a tsp of lemon juice, and

    fill the blender with ice cubes. Aerate all to heck. Serve with

    straws. A full blender serves 2-4 people, depending on how hot the

    day is.

  • Fruity Frozen Fat Free Frenzy – Beverages and Drinks Recipes

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    1 pint of strawberries

    1/2 pint of blueberries

    2 cups of water

    1 cup of granulated sugar

    1/4 cup of orange juice

    Puree fruit in blender of food processor. Heat water and sugar

    until boiling and sugar has melted. Remove from heat and add orange

    juice. Let cool slightly and then mix in fruit. Pour in shallow

    glass cooking pan (or ice trays) and let it set for at least four

    hours or overnight. Slice into pieces and place in food processor.

    Process until smooth and creamy. Transfer to freezer storage

    container and let set 30 minutes before serving. Makes eight

    servings.

    I have also used other fruits and juices with good results. Peaches

    worked nicely and cantaloupe was interesting, although since it is

    more watery it hardened a bit more than with other fruit mixes.

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    1 peeled small to medium banana

    1/3 cup buttermilk

    1/4 cup yoghurt

    splash vanilla

    few shakes cinnamon

    1/2 tsp instant coffee

    3 ice cubes

    2 pitted dates, or honey to taste

    Combine in blender. If using honey, drizzle in with blender running

    so it doesn’t settle on the bottom. To make a thicker shake, freeze

    the banana in chunks, and use that instead of the ice cubes. A

    riper banana will give a more liquid shake with a more pronounced

    banana flavor. If you use banana that is yellow with green ends

    you will get a thicker shake where the coffee flavor predominates.

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    6 oz can frozen orange juice

    6 oz Vodka (regular proof)

    3 qts 7-Up, Ginger Ale, etc.

    1 fifth Apricot Brandy

    Mix together and freeze (will form a slush). Stir occassionally.

    If thaws after entertaining, can refreezw for later use. Can dilute

    with Ginger Ale while serving.

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    2 C sugar

    2 C hot water

    1.5 3oz packages raspberry jello

    4.5 C hot water

    46 oz pineapple juice

    1.5 6oz cans frozen lemon-lime juice (or combo thereof)

    1 qt 7-up

    Dissolve sugar in 2 C hot water. Add jello to next measure of hot water

    and dissolve. Add sugar to jello. Add juice and concentrate. Freeze

    overnight (a 5 gallon jug or barrel works well for this). Thaw partially,

    adding 7-up to help. Use a potato masher to break into slush consistency.

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    2 c cubed, seeded watermelon

    1 can chilled lemon-lime soda (e.g. Sprite)

    2 T lime juice

    Place watermelon in a container and freeze for at least one hour

    or until frozen. Place watermelon and remaining ingredients in a

    blender and process until smooth. Serve in tall glasses. Recipe

    can be doubled, tripled, etc.

    Yields: 2 servings

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    Brandy Slush

    1 12 oz frozen orange juice concentrate

    1 12 oz frozen lemonade

    1 1/2 cup sugar

    2 cup brandy

    9 cup water

    Bring ingredients to boil then let cool. Mix together with brandy and

    put in container and freeze. When ready to serve, scoop slush in glass

    and pour sprite over slush.

    Vodka Slush

    9 cup water

    2 cup sugar 4 tea bags

    1 12 oz lemonade concentrate juice

    1 12 oz orange juice concentrate

    2-3 cup vodka or 1-2 cup bourbon

    Boil for 5 minutes, 7 cup water and 2 cup sugar. Boil 2 cup water and pour over

    4 tea bags and let cool. Combine both mixtures then add lemonade and

    orange juice concentrate. Then add either the vodka or bourbon. Pour into

    a container and freeze. When ready to serve scoop slush in glass and pour

    sprite over slush.

    Recipe ingredients and directions:

    1 cup apple cider

    1/3 cup honey

    1/2 cup light rum

    1/2 cup Appel, Applejack, or any other apple liqueur

    1/3 cup fresh orange juice and pulp (about 1 orange)

    1/3 cup fresh lemon juice and pulp (about 2 lemons)

    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

    1 teaspoon ground cloves

    Mix together apple cider and honey. Heat on lowest possible setting

    just until the honey dissolves, stirring constantly.

    Add to cooled mix the rum, apple liqueur, orange juice and pulp,

    lemon juice and pulp, ground cinnamon and ground cloves.

    Let set 3 weeks at room temperature, shaking every day, then filter

    into smaller bottles using muslin cloth. Makes about 3 cups of

    SilverHorn.

    Let set (at room temperature) as long as you can stand it – one

    *year* produces a *very* smooth drink, but try to wait at least

    three months.

    Apple liqueur may be hard to find in some states. It *is* a

    neccessary ingredient!

    This recipe was pieced together (after a lot of experimentation!)

    from hints dropped by someone who had the GoldenHorn recipe and

    one of his ex-girlfriends. I have no idea how close to the actual

    recipe it is, but it produces a very nice drink.

    To those of you who may have SCA connections, please distribute

    the above recipe freely and widely – the monopoly on the GoldenHorn

    recipe was really annoying. Please just make sure my name is on

    the recipe.

    This recipe can be infinitely modified, but this is the most popular

    one I have tried so far. In particular, try changing the amount

    of honey and/or spices. If you find a better combination, please

    let me know!

    Pour Kahlua and Bailey’s into a Shot glass. Float

    a golf-ball sized puff of whipped cream on top of

    the drink.

    BRAIN HEMMORAGE

    1 ounce Peach Schnapps

    1 teaspoon Bailey’s Irish Cream�

    1/2 teaspoon Grenadine

    This is a great drink to serve on Halloween. First,

    pour the peach schnapps. Then, slowly pour the

    Irish Creme. Do not mix! The Creme will clump

    together and settle at the bottom of the schnapps.

    It will have the appearance of an internal organ!!

    Pour the grenadine over the Creme for a completely

    disgusting looking, yet thoroughly tasty party

    drink!

    JELLY BEAN

    1 Part Blackberry Brandy

    1 Part Peppermint Schnapps

    Shake over ice, then strain into shot glasses.

    LIQUID HEROIN

    1 oz. Absolut Vodka�

    1 oz. Rumple Minze�

    1 oz. J�germeister�

    Stir well and serve as a gaint shot (in the mouth

    not in the arm).

    THE DIRTY LEPRECHAUN

    1 Part J�germeister�

    1 Part Bailey’s Irish Cream�

    1 Part Midori�

    Serve layered or shake with ice and strain into
