Going to add peas to mine.

And no need to cook onions first

  3. Courtclerkk

This makes no sense browning the meat first. Just throw it in the crockpot.
And veggies should go in the last few hours or so otherwise they will
    become mushy.

why add flour? What does this do to make things better?

I personally don’t like using Onion Soup mix, it is way too salty. If you
are trying to cut back on salt don’t use it.

This looks good though i think i’ll add mushrooms to mine :)

That’s great! So happy you loved it – thank you for letting us know.

Agree! Did recipe exactly as stated and what I ended up with was a
disgusting, mushy mess! The veggies completely fell apart and turned to
paste! I threw enire pot out because it resembled little more than baby
food! I highly suggest, placing only the meat and the liquid mix with the
onions in thto the slow cooker first for a couple of hours on low, then,
add your veggies – chop into large chunks then continue cooking on low for
another three to four hours checking veggies.

Those little additional steps aren’t a big deal to me either, but I was
thinking a slow cooker was somehow this miraculous convenience that turned
out great tasting meals. Alas, it’s no easier than a regular pot.

I made this stew and I love it. It last me a week and I shared 5 servings.
Good deal for the penny saver.

that was just for this recipe. you can use a slow cooker for so many
things, slow cooked roast is so soft and juicy and it falls apart so
easily. and those little additional steps take like 10 mins, not a big deal
    if you ask me

wont the baby carrots and potatoes become incredibly mushy after 7hrs of
cooking? can’t feel good with soft meat, soft veggies and nothing with a
    bite to it…

  16. MrGlennJohnsen

Meat browns better aswell as the flour makes the meat stay a bit more
together and not fall apart like pulled pork.

is there one slow cooker that is better than another. Don’t know if you are
allowed to say this. I have heard that Westbend is the best cooker.

Very important step! All good stews needs the meat browned in the pan with
    flour.
