Dark Chocolate Toffee Bars
Food Ingredients:
Crust 1/2 pound (2 sticks) unsalted butter 1 cup light brown sugar, packed 1 egg yolk 2 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Topping 12 ounces dark chocolate chips (or at least bittersweet) 1 cup shelled walnuts or pecans, coarsely chopped
Recipe preparation:
1 Preheat oven to 350. Grease a 9 x 12-inch baking pan. 2 Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolk, beat well 3 Sift in flour and salt, mixing well, then stir in vanilla. 4 Spread batter in the prepared pan. 5 Bake for 25 minutes. 6 Cover crust layer with chocolate chips and return to oven for 3 to 4 minutes. (Set the timer!) 7 Remove pan from oven and spread melted chocolate evenly with a spatula. 8 Sprinkle with nuts. 9 Cool completely in pan before cutting.
