Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken with Basil recipe

Often sold at night markets or bubble tea shops in Taiwan, Popcorn Chicken 鹽酥雞 (aka Salt & Pepper Chicken) is a super tasty snack. Here’s an easy to follow recipe on how to make Taiwanese Popcorn chicken at home, night market style.

Ingredients:
– 3/4 lb. chicken thighs
– fresh thai basil leaves

Marinade:
– 2-3 garlic cloves, minced
– 1/2 Tablespoon sugar
– 1/4 teaspoon five spice powder
– 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
– 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
– 1/2 Tablespoon rice wine
– 1 Tablespoon soy sauce

Seasoning (to taste):
– salt
– white pepper

Coating:
– sweet potato flour
– 1 egg

    wow! i never would have guessed that this dish is gluten free but of the three tutorials i've watched so far, all 3 use sweet potato flour. do you know if this is standard at most boba shops as opposed to using white flour? thanks for the recipe btw
