In this video we’ll show you how to make a simple homemade vanilla cake from scratch.
This recipe makes 4 cups of batter.
Ingredients:
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (270 grams)
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/3 cups granulated sugar (265 grams)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter (120 grams)
1 cup milk (1%, 2% or skim) (0.237 liters)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs
Bake at 350 F for 30-35 minutes
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the dry ingredients. Add butter cut into small cubes, a few cubes at a time, and mix until the batter appears grainy with a sand-like texture to it. Next, add the eggs and and mix until just combined. Slowly add the milk, and the vanilla.
Grease two 9″ round cake pans, or one 9″x13″ cake pan at 350F for 30-35 or until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes, remove from pan, and cool completely on a wire wrack. Frost as desired.

sounds pretty dumb but I don’t bake I was thinking of trying it, it looks
fun!
Hi Can you please answer as soon as possible can I use the batter for
cupcakes the same recipe
Thanks
How many cups of batter does this make?
In the video you add the vanilla 1st them the milk then the eggs. But in
the recipe you wrote to add the eggs first then the milk and the vanilla
last..will the difference from what you are doing in the video verses what
you wrote to do in the actual recipe male a difference in the end result?
Just made this cake with almond extract instead of vanilla and it tastes
heavenly. It came out light and fluffy.
I’ve made homemade cake before and I’ve always mixed the sugar with the
butter first then the rest of the wet ingredients than add the flour. Does
it make a difference.
Just baked this cake for my nieces bday and it was great! A little bit dry
but it was good. I used a gluten free four blend flour mixture & since I
didn’t have milk, I used buttermilk. I LOVED the wax paper idea, thank you
for that well I should thank your mom for that :-). Thank you for all your
videos.
When I use vanilla extract it gives it a horrible taste and I using the
right amount. Am I doing something wrong or do I need a specific brand?
Hi Jenn! I love your videos, and I was just wondering if it’s okay to use
water instead of milk for my buttercream icing…
Sorry if it’s a dumb question but it’s my first time baking a anything, let
alone a cake. What’s preheating and how do you do it? Also is it recipe
specific?
I have a question; How long can this stay in a fridge without frosting and
not get stale or moldy?
is der a replacement fr egg????
Thanks for the video. I simply loved the way you have explained the
process.
got a question: do you have to use baking powder?
I have always failed at baking cakes but now after saying I would never
ever make a cake again you have inspired me to bake a cake thank you so
much
