For the Meatballs:
2 lbs. ground chicken
6 scallions, thinly sliced
5 cloves garlic, minced
2″ piece of fresh ginger, peeled and grated
1 tbsp Chinese 5 spice
1 tbsp sea salt
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
2 tbsp sesame oil
For the Sauce:
1 cup hoisin sauce
¼ cup rice vinegar
3 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp sambal
1″ piece fresh ginger, peeled and grated
For the Garnish:
2 scallions, thinly sliced
Sesame seeds
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
Mix together all the meatball ingredients until they are thoroughly combined. Form the meatballs into spheres 1″ in diameter and place in a greased baking dish.
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until just cooked through. While the meatballs are cooking, mix together all the sauce ingredients. Pull the meatballs out of the oven and pour the sauce over the meatballs, making sure to cover them generously.
Turn the oven up to broil and finish the meatballs in the oven to set the sauce, about 1-2 minutes. Watch them carefully, so that they do not burn. Garnish with sliced scallions and sesame seeds and serve with a toothpick.

I tried this recipe. It’s way too salty, making it inedible.
Tip: reduce salt measurement!
My domestic helper will do this, but she uses them as filling for
dumplings! Just wrap a little in a wonton skin, not sure if you can find it
easily, over in the US though. Definitely looks like what an Asian family
would eat. Cheers, your sunny Singapore fan! 😀
These look DELICIOUS! I’d serve these for dinner, too with some Asian slaw
or some jasmine rice.
Guess what is making a debut at my next cocktail party! 🙂
Well, it depends. She may be allergic to a certain spice or MSG. I would
definitely ask her first and be upfront about what spices are in this. You
definitely don’t want to make anyone sick! 🙂
obsessed with the recipe as well as the song
It’s actually just a song from our licensed music library. Recorded as
“production music”. But we’ve had so many people comment on our music,
we’re actually launching a CD with 15 of our favorite tracks in a few
weeks. And this song will be on it! So we’ll keep you posted and when it’s
ready you’ll be able to get it. Stay tuned!
