A really delicious, easy to make casserole that is great for a brunch. We have it every Christmas morning, along with some other casseroles. This is also really good to make when you have overnight guests. You can make it the day before, refrigerate, and then bake in the morning.
8 eggs, slightly beaten
6 slices white bread, cubed
1 lb. browned breakfast sausage
2 cups milk
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
Cube bread and place in a 9 x 13″ baking dish that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Brown and drain the sausage. Whisk the eggs and then add the milk, cheese, salt, pepper, and sausage. Pour over the bread and make sure that the bread gets soaked with the mixture. You may have to even out the sausage and cheese on the top. Cover and refrigerate overnight or 12 hours. Bake in a preheated 350° oven for 40 minutes. Serve hot.
If you want to make this fat free or lower fat you could try to use a turkey sausage, skim milk, egg beaters, and a no fat cheese. I have never made it that way, but it would probably work.

Looks delicious Lynn, Thanks again for a simple and easy meal idea. Have a
great Monday :-)
Low fat?! BLASPHEMY!!! Bring on those delicious calories!
I just found your channel..and subscribed to it. Could we use a different
kind of bread..like wheat/whole grain?
@thecameronrowe – Thanks. Was really busy for a while. Things have slowed
down, so I hope to get back to getting at least one video up every week.
This looks so delicious! I put this in my favorites and will be trying this
very soon – thank you!
I hope you enjoy it! Thanks for watching.
Ok this is by far the best and easiest recipe on youtube. Thank you so
much:) and I will be trying it asap!!
@10pdf – Thank you! I always just take it out of the refrigerator and put
it right in the preheated oven. If you use a glass baking dish, I think it
would be fine.
That looks delicious Lynn, thanks!
Lynn, where did you get the rectangle plates? These are perfect for serving
brunch but I have not been able to find them.
why does it need to set for 12 hours or over night????
The eggs look very pail….. The hens are not getting leafy green in their
diets… Jusst saying…..
Your version sounds really good. I think that putting it in the
refrigerator allows the bread to soak up all the milk and eggs, sort of
like a bread pudding. Thanks for watching.
@bettyskitchen – Thank you, Betty.
@TheMOstang1 – Thank you. You have a great day, as well!
Many years ago my father made something similar on saturdays (if it was
some stale white bread)! But without sausage. Bread (in pieces) douse in
milk – than mix with eggs – than pour the mixture on girdle (pan). Very
tasty!
Good stuff – I use can crescents for the batter – spread my cooked sausage
on it pour beat eggs over and cover with cheese – 350 for 40 minutes – what
does the frige for 12 hours do?
Yes, it needs to soak so the bread can soak up the milk and egg mixture.
The bread doesn’t come out soggy, but it doesn’t taste like toast. It is
more like a strata.
As usual another lovely recipe tks Lynn one question though do v have to
bring 2 room temp before baking or straight frm fridge?
Thank You too!
I’m not sure what a strata is lol, but thank you 🙂 I just can’t stand wet
soggy bread lol.
@Bigpussycat5 – Thank you!
