Recipe ingredients and directions:

South African Yellow Rice

1 cup/250 ml uncooked polished rice

2 tsp/10 ml turmeric

1 stick cinnamon

1 tsp/5 ml salt

2 Tbsp/25 ml yellow sugar

1/2 cup/125 ml seedless raisins or sultanas

2 tsp/10 ml butter

Put rice, turmeric, cinnamon, salt and sugar in a saucepan. Cover

with water and boil for 15 minutes, or until rice is tender and

all moisture has been absorbed. Add raisins and steam in a colander

over boiling water for 30 minutes. Remove cinnamon stick, fluff

with butter and serve. Serves 6.
